What you give away, You Keep Forever

Qualified Charitable Distributions from an IRA

If you are 70 ½ or older, you may be eligible to donate to FLMF directly from your Individual Retirement Account (IRA) without paying income tax on the withdrawal. This is referred to as a Qualified Charitable Distribution (QCD). A QCD can be used to satisfy all or part of your IRA required minimum distribution up to an annual maximum of $100,000 in 2023. This $100,000 cap is indexed for inflation for tax years after 2023. For 2024, the annual maximum QCD is $105,000. Your IRA trustee and/or your tax advisor should be able to assist you in determining if you are eligible to take a nontaxable QCD from your IRA.

Qualified Charitable Distribution donations can be sent directly by your IRA trustee via check to Future Leaders of Maine Foundation, 1 Christopher Road, Kennebunk, ME 04043 and should identify you as the donor by name and address. Please email us regarding QCDs.
