Dr. Tom Farrell devoted his life to empowering young people. For over 50 years, he served as a teacher, coach, and school superintendent in Maine, Colorado, and Taiwan. When he passed in 2024, the Farrell family created the Future Leaders of Maine Foundation to honor his legacy of leadership, service, and giving.
We believe Maine’s future depends on young leaders who serve with compassion, integrity, and courage. The Future Leaders of Maine Foundation supports and develops these leaders by awarding scholarships and creating leadership growth opportunities for both recipients and finalists to prepare students to thrive in college and in their communities.
Each year, we recognize Maine high school seniors who demonstrate resilience, service, and leadership potential. Our scholarship recipient receives both financial support and participation in a leadership development program to prepare them for college and beyond. Finalists are also offered opportunities to take part in leadership training, ensuring that every student benefits from the Future Leaders experience.

We are proud to announce Mya Schildroth of Blue Hill, Maine, as the inaugural recipient of the Dr. Tom Farrell Future Leaders of Maine Scholarship. A graduating senior at George Stevens Academy, Mya has excelled as a student council president, team captain, and community leader. She will attend the University of Maine this fall with her tuition fully covered for her first year.
This year’s finalists included students from Yarmouth, Newport, Old Town, Ellsworth, and Rockland — each demonstrating outstanding leadership and service.

Dr. Tom Farrell’s memoir shares his journey as an educator, coach, and leader — and the philosophy that inspired the Future Leaders of Maine Foundation. Every copy sold supports our scholarship and leadership programs.
